Just because someone's feed reader is subscribed (and your content is pulled) doesn't mean they're looking at it (in fact I would say the majority don't read every post). So yes, it does increase "bogosity", but I think most people look at sub counts as a statistical phenomenon. You can't model the individual interactions for all the atoms in a gas, but you can get a measure of gas pressure. This 'subscriber pressure' will be slightly more inflated than before but the trends are what's important, no?

Re: WTF Friendfeed – you may have just crossed the line

Not defending friendfeed's move - I don't have a dog in that hunt. But I get to shootingbubbles posts via the friendfeed and not RSS.

Re: WTF Friendfeed – you may have just crossed the line

If the behavior had always been this way, it likely wouldn't be that big of a deal, but since it was all at once, it absolutely came as a shock. That said, Steven, I've been following you on all networks since before you had a single gray hair.

Re: WTF Friendfeed – you may have just crossed the line

Clicked it from FriendFeed, and read it Steven!

Re: WTF Friendfeed – you may have just crossed the line

i also use the local rss feed for ff for cn - and so i didn't get the bumpity either

although on insidetransit i got 2500 new subs - yet IT doesnt get 2500 pv a day.

Re: WTF Friendfeed – you may have just crossed the line

well I know I'm beginning to feel a little screwed in the deal

Re: WTF Friendfeed – you may have just crossed the line

Thinking about this further, it seems like a ploy for FF to gain more users. Because the payperpost blogging for the money crowd - as soon as they get wind of this way to juice up their Feedburner stats - are gonna take to this like bees to honey.

So FF get tons more users while bloggers are left with an increasingly useless metric that everyone will ignore since it has lost value.
